Welland is structured into six wards (with two councillors representing each ward). Following a recent municipal Ward Boundary Review, the city finalized updated boundaries. The actual geographic layout and notable neighbourhoods for Welland’s wards roughly align as follows:

Student Housing & Rental Pressures

Our Affordable & Safe Rental Housing Program will protect established neighbourhoods through a Rental Certification Program that requires regular safety and property standards inspections. Renovation grants and free building permits will encourage the safe conversion of detached homes into legal fourplexes and room rentals, increasing housing options while protecting neighbourhood character.

Managing Residential Growth

Growth should strengthen our community, not overwhelm it. By encouraging more housing in the downtown core through targeted incentives, we can reduce development pressure on Ward 1 while preserving green space and existing neighbourhoods.

Traffic, Infrastructure & Parks

As the Niagara College area continues to grow, parking standards must reflect today's needs. We will review visitor, caregiver, and PSW parking requirements for multi-unit developments while dedicated Neighbourhood Improvement crews respond quickly to park, trail, and minor infrastructure maintenance.
