Caring for Each Other

Helping People Before Problems Become Crises

A stronger community is built by preventing problems before they become emergencies. By investing in housing, healthcare, employment and community partnerships, we can improve lives while making better use of taxpayer dollars.

The programs
01

24-Hour Work-to-Live Program

Homelessness should not be managed; it should be solved.

The Work-to-Live Program will provide stable accommodation, meals, hygiene facilities, employment assistance, addiction and mental health supports, secure storage and access to Ontario Works and ODSP benefits where eligible. The goal is to help residents transition from crisis to stability while reducing long-term reliance on emergency services.

02

Bringing Healthcare to Seniors

Our seniors deserve faster care and fewer unnecessary trips to the hospital.

By expanding Community Paramedicine into retirement residences, seniors can receive medical assessments, wellness checks and follow-up care where they live, allowing ambulances to remain available for life-threatening emergencies while improving quality of care.

03

Community Investment Reserve

Strong communities are built by volunteers, charities and local organizations.

The Community Investment Reserve will provide grants, insurance assistance, shared equipment and event funding to organizations that strengthen Welland. By supporting local festivals, service clubs and volunteer groups, we create a stronger, more connected community for everyone.

04

Protecting Our Children

Parents should have confidence that every organization working with children is committed to the highest safety standards.

The City will require organizations operating on municipal property or through municipal agreements to validate Vulnerable Sector Checks for staff and volunteers working with children in sports, recreation and childcare programs.

05

Supporting Community Partnerships & Audits

Government cannot build a stronger city alone. When we provide funding for community needs, we need to have an independent audit and spending proof for the funds we provide, which is currently not a requirement.

By working alongside organizations such as the Lions Club, Club Richelieu, multicultural organizations, seniors groups and other community partners, we can leverage volunteers, grants and local expertise to expand programs and improve services throughout Welland.
